Ms. Ford received her license from the State Board of Cosmetology in Lansing, Michigan. She was blessed to be recruited by a former instructor who was hired to manage the salon SELIGMAN and LATZ, the largest chain of beauty schools in the country, upon their opening in Saginaw, Michigan. Ms. Ford quickly earned the reputation of being the top stylist in the community. Within six months, she also established herself throughout the SELIGMAN AND LATZ chain of salons, as the leading consultant.

In 1978, she moved to Oakland, California. As a dedicated professional, she was licensed by the STATE BOARD of COSMETOLOGY in San Francisco, California. She quickly began working to achieve her goal of owning her own salon. She resumed the pace she had begun in Saginaw, Michigan, by participating in a variety of competitive styling shows and due to her success was voted the “New Talent Discovery of 1978”. Through this and other awards she established statewide and regional recognition in the field of hair cutting and styling. This recognition earned, and made possible numerous opportunities for Ms. Ford. She became a West Coast Representative for Revlon, a Platform Artist, and a Consultant to many beauty colleges and manufactures in the United States. She very soon became successful, yet remained steadfast and humble, in her accomplishments.

In 1980, Ms. Ford became the owner of her first salon. She called it “GIGI’S”. After she accomplished this she flew to London to continue to train and learn more on cutting, and styling. Upon her return Ms. Ford increased her knowledge, broadened and critiqued her skills, to include hair replacement service. With her work with hair cutting, styling and weaves Ms. Ford saw an increase of women who suffered from hair loss and realized the skills she had acquired could not help them so he became educated in hair replacement. In 1991 she opened the “All About Hair” Replacement Center in Oakland, California. She was renowned for her innovative Platform Artistry, and became a representative and hair prosthesis designer for several different manufacturers. She designed a hair alteration for New Concept Hair Goods, a large distributor of hair extensions and other accessories. She accomplished these goals through her intense focus on continuing education, training, and her international travel, resulting in a renewed interest in Hair Restoration and Replacement. One of her most significant achievements is the “Gigi Series” Alteration Design, a hair replacement prosthesis, which she designed. In 1999, she travelled to China, Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines, where she met directly with expert hair vendors and factories. As a result, she developed her own hair line called “The Gigi Series. She later discontinued her hair line to focus on educating cosmetologists on hair replacement products.

In 2008 Gigi wrote her first book, “Don’t Lose Your Clients because They Are Losing Their Hair,” as a gift to the industry and to empower the next generation of designers. It is a compilation of over thirty years of education, training, research, and experience. Along with this book she has created pamphlets and now has completed this book, as well the companion workbook to help educate professionals on the procedures and business of hair replacement. She believes that hair replacement is woven into every dimension of our lives and, that it is vital that we understand the sensitive and emotional aspects involved in the process of creating a positive image transition.

Today, as a hair replacement educator with extensive national and international training, Gigi is a renowned expert in hair styling, hair care, hair replacement, consulting, product/project development, program planning and training curriculum and design.
